CNOOC Parent May Bid for Iraqi Oilfields, Fu Says

Bloomberg -- China National Offshore Oil Corp., the nation’s third-biggest oil explorer, may continue to bid for oilfields in Iraq after the Gulf country awarded a contract to its bigger rival, China National Petroleum Corp.

“We may continue to participate in the second round,” China National Offshore President Fu Chengyu said today in Beijing. Iraq plans to award contracts for oil and gas field exploration and development in a second licensing round to be held before the end of the year, Abdul Mahdy al-Ameedi, deputy director general of the Petroleum Contracts Licensing Dept., said July 2.

Iraq doesn't value anything but their own interests and could not care less that our lives "bought" them their freedom.

And Exxon lost the bid because their 4.9% return on investment was too high ... Iraq only wanted to pay 2%. Guess that tells us something about gratitude and the value of American lives.

Im thinkin...an investment opportunity. CNOOC is listed on the NYSE as a depositary receipt as well as an OTC stock available to the public. But I still like Exxon Mobil much better (XOM) as what these companies are bidding for Iraqi oil is hardly profitable...way too low per barrel, considering the risks and all...just sayin.

Iraq should give us the money for the oil they sell for all of the money the U.S. has paid to liberate them.

Why invest money in anything in Iraq. Someone is just going to bomb it anyways.

That would be a good way for Iraqi to say thank you to our country for saving their butts.

China is positioning itself with sweetheart deals in a lot of other counties. In a couple of years they will overshadow OPEC.

Well, Iraq is a sovereign nation. Just as the U.S. promised would happen. It was never about invading Iraq to take over it's oil fields.

Hey "adapal", get a grip. I'll bet you were leading the charge about how the Iraq war was all about securing the oil for ourselves and how wrong that was. Now you're spouting off about it didn't happen. Have some more Kool Aid.
